With their open world concept of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Game Freak does a great job! Nearly from the start on, the players are free to explore the diverse region of Paldea and in the way, in which order they want to deal with the main story mission branches. There is some room for having an imbalanced gaming experience in that. But thanks to a clever world design with some natural boundaries the game is as good (or worse) as its predecessors on that point. The biggest weak spot consists of the technical flaws mainly based on the limited hardware power of Switch. Still these imperfections can’t ruin an overall great experience Pokémon fans will love.

Trials of Mana ist der beste Eintrag in die Franchise seit Legend of Mana von 1999. Das Remake adaptiert nicht nur Seiken Densetsu 3 für ein modernes Publikum, sondern baut die Mechanik und das Kerndesign des Super Famicom-Rollenspiels konsequent weiter aus. Das flache, aber ansprechende Leveldesign hat jetzt eine vertikale Ebene mit vielen Geheimnissen, die es aufzudecken gilt; die Kämpfe bieten eine gute Balance zwischen fähigkeitsbasiertem Gameplay und einer noch stärkeren Anpassung der Gruppe als im Original; und die Handlung ist zwar simpel, wird aber nie durch moderne erzählerische Konventionen beeinträchtigt, was zu einer Geschichte führt, die sowohl klassisch im Ton als auch theatralisch im Umfang ist. Das Remake wird nur durch Probleme behindert, die ausschließlich die Switch-Portierung betreffen - niedrigere Bildrate und Auflösung im Vergleich zur PS4-Version - aber selbst das ist nicht genug, um das Erlebnis zu trüben. Mit einer Liebe zum Detail, die das Ausgangsmaterial ebenso ehrt wie aufwertet, ist dies ein neuer Goldstandard für Videospiel-Remakes.
